DEVELOPMENT OF OPEN-SOURCE FACE SHIELD
Over the last month as we on the West Coast of Canada have prepared for the potential siege of Covid-19, our hearts have gone out to those communities and cities the world over currently struggling to keep people alive.
We have been thinking about how to address potential shortages in PPE and the challenges of getting even basic protective equipment for non-medical essential services staff who deal with customers day in and day out. These are people like clerical staff, care aides, grocery workers, postal workers, restaurant staff, and those people working in logistics and trucking.
Working in the publishing industry, we know the strength and versatility of paper. We built on that knowledge with a multi-disciplinary design and testing team from the arts, medicine, engineering, fabrication, and health services.
Here is our open-source design for “THE TEMP” — a short-term face shield made from easy-to-find materials. Please make use, share, and improve our design. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
